For a library reading circle, I am preparing an exercise on what happens when style guides disagree. The same outfit feature is praised for continuity in one book and criticized for lacking definition in another. It is hard to tell whether the advice conflicts because of the underlying framework or merely the wording. I am considering a paired drawing exercise that holds the outfit constant except for the detail being compared. A shared reading prompt could be color and body type analysis and I would ask what each framework predicts before discussing what the drawings actually show. How can we compare the recommendations fairly while allowing different readers to value different visual effects? A clear order for discussing observations and interpretations would help everyone explain their reasoning without policing anyone’s taste. We will record the reasons behind each recommendation before comparing the drawings, so that different definitions remain visible throughout the discussion.
