Questions before a first layered haircut

I help with costumes for a local theatre group. The character wears a jacket with a high collar, and the hair needs to read clearly from the back rows without catching on the fabric. Two possible bob silhouettes are still under discussion. The shorter option exposes more of the collar. I was looking for clearer terms and came across bob haircut lengths to help us label the alternatives in our notes. The actor needs to turn freely during a quick scene change. A close portrait misses some of the stage effect. We can compare the wigs from a few rows back. I would keep lighting and camera position the same. We have only a small costume budget, so I would prefer a reversible test using pins before committing to scissors. The wig also needs to look consistent when the actor sits down. How would other costume volunteers structure that comparison?
